About Us
Our Story
our mission
At Nexleaf, we partner with Ministries of Health to scale the digital tools health workers need to ensure every clinic stands ready to save lives.
15+ Years of Innovation
From Tech Know-How to Global Impact
In 2009, Nexleaf’s co-founders, Nithya Ramanathan and Martin Lukac, started a non-profit tech company in Nithya’s garage. Engineers by training, our co-founders recognized the potential for wireless sensor data to address complex global challenges. They began innovating and iterating, utilizing emerging smartphone technology as the foundation for devices that leveraged real-time sensor data to deliver impact at scale.
Pioneering Sensor Tech
The name “Nexleaf” evokes our early applications of sensor technology in climate science and conservation. In our early years, Nexleaf developed an inexpensive, cellphone-based acoustic sensor for remotely monitoring wildlife, deployed by researchers from the Coastal Conservation Action Lab at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC). Nexleaf also introduced a methodology to provide usage-based financing for clean cookstoves and safer household energy. Learn more about our clean cooking legacy program here.

Protecting Vaccines with ColdTrace
Using a similar real-time temperature monitoring application on smartphones, Nexleaf innovated wireless monitoring for vaccine refrigerators in remote health clinics. With that, our flagship technology – ColdTrace – was born.
Nexleaf Today
We collect real-time data from tens of thousands of health facilities worldwide to ensure life-saving equipment and reliable power are always available. Our advanced sensor technology forms the foundation of a robust platform that supports Ministries of Health and global partners in maintaining operational healthcare infrastructure, enabling frontline workers to focus on saving lives.
Nexleaf has been honored as a Fast Forward Growth Accelerator company, a Gavi INFUSE Pacesetter, and a Tech Award laureate.
