Partnership in Action: FDI, UNICEF, and Nexleaf Safeguard Vaccines in Pakistan

Immunizing every child requires that health workers – from senior level Ministers to local nurses and logisticians – all work together to manage and repair the equipment that keeps vaccines safe and potent. In Pakistan, Nexleaf technology helps ensure these dedicated health workers have everything they need to keep vaccines potent and save more lives.

Vaccines start their journey at the National Warehouse, which is managed by Pakistan’s Federal Directorate of Immunization (FDI). There, Nexleaf technology safeguards the vaccine stock stored in large walk-in coldrooms and walk-in freezers.

This month, representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF visited the National Warehouse and saw how Nexleaf’s remote temperature monitoring technology delivers safer vaccine storage and helps health workers maintain high-value specialized equipment.

Also in August, FDI and UNICEF collaborated to conduct a four-day training-of-trainers (ToT) on remote temperature monitoring for vaccine equipment management.

The training, presided over by Dr. Sofia Younus, the Director General of FDI, was attended by participants from all provinces of Pakistan.

One session, facilitated by Shaji Abbas Malik, Nexleaf’s Country Manager for Pakistan, provided hands-on instruction on how to install and utilize ColdTrace remote temperature monitoring devices. Health workers also learned how to access the Nexleaf data dashboard and respond to real-time SMS and email alerts.

The newly-trained staff will return to their respective districts to install Nexleaf ColdTrace devices at health facilities in the coming months.

Thanks to FDI’s leadership and ownership of the initiative, district and provincial governments will ensure the long-term sustainability of this system.

At Nexleaf, our goal is to serve Ministries of Health by mobilizing data effectively to make sure health workers get everything they need to save lives. ColdTrace is designed to serve the dedicated personnel navigating complex challenges – from rugged terrain to power outages to seasonal weather – to reach every child with potent vaccines.
